More Skin
The promenade deck is now fully clothed. The birch ply has wrapped around the back, making our living room look a bit more finished off than it would have been otherwise. Some coats of water based varathane have been applied already, and add to the depth of the natural grain significantly. Some finer touches with handle hard ware for the lower ‘wings’ that open up to the under side have helped finish everything quite nicely.
A few areas of warping have occurred on the lower wing which isn’t secured at all by screws. A few more hinges should solve that.

Promenade Grows Skin
In a sudden burst of forward progress, the birch plywood arrived and was ready to begin coating the Promenade Deckā¢. The light tone of the birch really adds a natural element to the space, and once the raised work surface is coated on all sides, we will be one more giant leap towards complete.
Stainless steel screws and raised washers are being used in an even spacing to fasten the thin, quarter inch panels to the framed structure. Some heavier half inch OSB inside will provide the real stiffness and rigidity. Hopefully that will arrive in the next few days as well, as the measurements have now all been made.

platform [shoes]
Well platform shoes may be out of style, but the up and coming Promenade Deck is moving along swimmingly. The raised work surface will be where we do all of the finishing work on our products. Extra storage space below will certainly be useful, and the space is designed to allow visitors and customers to see us work, and encourage conversation when we have open hours. It’s just a bunch of studs right now, but it is a significant step forward towards having a store front, and a space to help fill that front window with products.
