drywall

Holy cannoli! It has been quite some time for an update, let’s get some new pictures out there. First off, drywall has been a success not a complete failure. We learned a bit more about drywall through the process, as well as highlighting a few of the framing problems beneath it. In any case, some extra compound and design on the fly had the whole place looking pretty good in no time. Check out the pictures below.

what a stud

An update on the storefront, and it’s not deconstruction! For the first time, we are adding things to out space, putting in walls in our to-be bed cabinets. We did not instantly get into the rhythm of a framing machine, and it is easy to spot some of the early mistakes. Several hours later though, we are done framing in both rooms in the basement, with only some drywall and paint standing in our way before semi-livable spaces exist. Progress!

The next big project will be the kitchen and living room, along with workspace and storefront, which all fall upstairs. Fortunately everything is freestanding in those cases, and will require no additional integration into the existing structure. Additionally, our kitchen is a testament to the power of asking simple questions, and the support of family friends. Without paying a dime, we now have a very large minifridge, full freezer chest, and thanks to our good friend Justin Lacey, a fantastic stove. You should keep an eye out for some of Justin’s upcoming furniture as well, bending the possibilities of felt. Hopefully we will get the chance to showcase some of his work in the near future, as it is top-notch.

happy belated fourth

Quite late, yes I know, but I wanted to do a quick happy 4th of July post. Drew and I got the chance to hang out with some lovely upcoming designers prior to the evening’s big event, with a nice bike ride down to the smithfield street bridge for a nice view. I mostly paid attention to the show, but did manage to grab a few pictures as well. It was apparent there was a new group orchestrating the whole thing, with some parts good and some others bad. Overall though, fireworks always show off what a wonderful city Pittsburgh is. Bridges, rivers, skyline and fireworks, we look forward to seeing them all.
