Post-Tweed

We want to say thank you to everyone who came out for the ride this weekend, as well as a BIG thanks everyone who went to bat for the ride on blogs and message boards. Great turnout, and a great ride- it was fantastic to meet everyone, and we hope you had as good a time as we did. If you have any images from the ride that you’d like to share, email us at info@clankworks.com, and we’ll get more of a gallery going we will add it to our Flickr Set. Again… thank you!

Do stay tuned for a summertime “Seersucker Saunter” in just a few short months!

A visit from the Fastboy

fastboy&girl

New York frame builder Ezra Caldwell and wife Hillary were visiting Pittsburgh this weekend. On Saturday, Ezra gave a talk for the BRICKS for Young Adults program, a lovely organization formed to provide a support network for young adults living with cancer and their families. Before the talk, a contingent of pittsburgh riders accompanied the Caldwells on a short trek covering some of the Allegheny Passage and Eliza Furnace trails that border the Monongahaela River. On Sunday, Ezra and Hillary were kind enough to brave the damp and stop by the shop.

I should explain- Mr Caldwell is something of a celebrity around ClankWorks. He has produced a gorgeous portfolio of custom frame and bicycle builds (fastboy cycles), not to mention being our original Ligneous Fender Luminary. Ezra offered some generous input on our production methods, as well as on a few upcoming projects.

Thank you for the visit, Ezra & Hillary! Hope to talk to you soon.

Aquatic Bicycle

Not a new idea, or one that we haven’t seen made several times before, but there is something rather simple with this floating cycle.

Aqua Bike 1

Li Jin stays high and dry with her Amphibious Bicycle.

Four sets of floats, made from standard office water cooler style bottles, keep the bike high and dry. Additionally, it looks as though they can be added and removed rather easily, making it true to the name of an amphibious bicycle, rather than water based alone.

Attaching the floats.

Attaching the floats.

While I doubt it would be overly advantageous in a city with so many bridges like Pittsburgh, the recreation aspect would provide hours of fun on our three large waterways. I would be curious how deep the draft is, and what the performance is like on smaller streams; particularly going against the current.
