There are a common list of things that every cyclist dreads, from real dangers, to incredible annoyances, like having one’s bike stolen. Indoor storage is a great way to prevent this, but finding the space can often be difficult, especially for business and public spaces. Fortunately for the tenants of the Spalding Building in Portland, this is no longer a problem.

The historic building has had two of it’s three vaults converted into bicycle storage facilities for it’s guests. The security is real beyond just the impressive, but non-functioning, doors, as both vaults are monitored via video camera as well, and users have access to lockers for personal belongings as well. What a great way to keep a historic element of the buildings, as well as invest in cycling infrastructure.

Check out the rest of the details, and more photos, at Bike Portland »

The time has come, spring is here and to kick it all off, ClankWorks has decided to orchestrate a Tweed Ride in our fair town of Pittsburgh. We hope this will be a great chance to start what will hopefully become a yearly tradition.

As the poster shows, we will be starting in Doughboy Square, home to ClankWorks and the new home to BikePGH. From here, a brief ride through the strip, Allegheny West and Downtown will culminate in a brief jaunt in the South Side until we end at Piper’s Pub. The exact route can be viewed on Google Maps. We will begin milling about the square shortly after 2, but will have our door open earlier than that if you wish to swing by. Come out and show your support for good cycling, good friends and good times in tweed!

Feel free to post any questions in the comments section below!

Drew and I were just discussing one of the rather annoying aspects of bicycle travel cases being the predicament found at the end destination. Hard shell cases, while providing excellent protection, leave minimal flexibility when you arrive at the end of your travels. BIKND has solved this by introducing a soft shell case that folds up into a much more manageable size.

Cycling is all about the freedom the experience of riding brings with it, and by having a collapsable case for one’s bike, the barrier of traveling to distant rides is reduced. This is a great idea and we are looking forward to seeing what the ‘coming soon’ products on the website entail.

The review from Interbike that Cycling News ran seems to be overall quite positive. They asked some good practical questions and still came back with good answers. Well worth a read if this looks like something up your alley.
